WHO ARE SCHOOL COUNSELORS & WHAT DO THEY DO?

Professional School Counselors are masters level educators who support students to do their very best in school, and in life.

Their best not just as a student, but as a classmate, friend and citizen of the school community.

When things get in the way of students doing their best, school counselor’s help with problem solving.

School Counselors advocate for ALL students and provide opportunities  for students to develop skills and tools for handling their feelings about school, themselves and the events in their life, so that they are prepared for a successful future and career.  


The mission of the BME School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental, integrated program that promotes the academic, social/emotional, and career development of ALL BME students in support of the BME mission to: prepare all students to be contributing citizens in our global society

SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM ACTIVITIES

TEACH CURRICULUM

Coordinate school wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program

Classroom lessons 2x per month using Second Step Program & MindUP

Staff Development, as needed, for collaboration and integration of SEL

Career exploration activities

COUNSEL STUDENTS

Brief solution focused counseling for individual students

Small counseling groups for psycho education, support,  and skill building

Problem solving sessions for peer conflicts 

PROVIDE RESPONSIVE SERVICES

Identify & address immediate needs & concerns of students

Support in crisis situations

Develop interventions to address needs

CONSULTATION & COORDINATION

With teachers, parents, specialists, community therapists, etc.

For individual interventions & system support (PBIS)

Bullying prevention education & intervention

Manna Backpack Program

Serve Our School (SOS) 5th Grade Team

Referrals to community agencies (Access Family Services)

Personal Safety Education

School transition activities and support
